Allied Health & Therapy through CHSP
Exercise classes and falls prevention for seniors
Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older Australians, but with the right support, many falls are entirely preventable. Through the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), Holdsworth offers subsidised Allied Health and Therapy Services, including balance and falls prevention classes and exercise programs designed to help you stay strong, steady and confident at home.

What is Allied Health and Therapy under CHSP?
Allied health refers to a range of health services that support your physical wellbeing and independence without requiring a hospital stay or a specialist referral.
Under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), older seniors can access subsidised Allied Health services, such as falls prevention and exercise classes through approved providers like Holdsworth.
These services are designed to keep you active and independent. They are not about treating illness; they are about building strength, improving your balance, and giving you the confidence to keep living life on your terms.

What does Allied Health support through Holdsworth include?
Holdsworth's Allied Health and Therapy Services focus on the areas that matter most for staying independent at home, through its Wellbeing group:
- Balance and stability training to reduce your risk of falls
- Strength and exercise
- Support to improve your mobility and confidence in everyday movement

Who is eligible for Allied Health & Therapy through CHSP?
To access Holdsworth's CHSP-funded Allied Health services, you need to meet the eligibility requirements for the Commonwealth Home Support Program:
- Be aged 65 or over (or 50 or over for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people)
- Need support to stay living independently at home
- Have a current My Aged Care assessment that includes Allied Health or exercise support
How do exercise and balance classes help you stay independent at home?
Losing your balance can have serious consequences. A single fall can lead to injury, a loss of confidence, and a reluctance to stay active. That cycle of inactivity can make things worse over time.
Regular balance and strength training helps break that cycle. Research consistently shows that targeted exercise programs for older adults reduce the risk of falls significantly.
Beyond the physical benefits, group exercise and mental activity classes offer something equally valuable: connection. Many participants tell us that coming to class each week is a highlight. They see familiar faces, share a laugh and leave feeling more capable and less isolated.
Staying active is not just about your body. It is about your independence, your wellbeing, and the quality of your everyday life.

Frequently asked questions
Are balance and exercise classes covered by the Commonwealth Home Support Program?
Yes. Allied Health services, including balance classes and falls prevention programs, are a funded service type under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). You will need a current My Aged Care assessment to access these services. Some providers may ask for a small contribution towards the cost, but the majority of the cost is subsidised by the Australian Government.
What exercise classes are available for seniors through My Aged Care?
Through CHSP providers like Holdsworth, you can access group exercise classes focused on balance, strength and falls prevention. These are delivered in local community settings and are suitable for older adults of varying fitness levels. The specific classes available depend on your assessment and the provider in your area.
How can I help a loved one reduce the risk of falls at home?
Falls prevention is about more than removing rugs or improving lighting at home, though those things help too. Regular exercise that focuses on balance and strength is one of the most effective ways to reduce fall risk. Through CHSP, your loved one can access subsidised exercise classes and Allied Health support. A My Aged Care assessment is the first step.
What is the difference between CHSP Allied Health and Support at Home?
The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) is for people who need entry-level support to remain living at home. It is designed for those who need some help but do not yet require the more intensive support. Allied health services under CHSP are a great first step if you want to improve your balance and fitness and stay independent.
