Personal shopping assistance for you
With Holdsworth’s shopping assistance for seniors, you choose how you’d like to be supported. A support worker can help you plan your grocery list, go shopping with you or take care of the shop on your behalf. If you like going out, we can offer support on your shopping trip, such as searching, reaching, carrying and handling items at the checkout. Alternatively, if you prefer staying at home, we will be able to organise the shopping and deliver it safely to your doorstep.
This flexible senior shopping service is designed to make grocery shopping easier and more manageable, while keeping you involved.
Shopping assistance services
Shopping assistance for seniors is provided as part of your approved Support at Home services and is based on your assessed needs and agreed support plan. The aim is to help you manage everyday grocery shopping safely and comfortably, while supporting your independence at home.
Your shopping support may include:
- Making sure groceries meet any dietary restrictions or specific food requirements identified during assessment.
- Shopping together, assistance with picking products, access to shelves and safe handling of products.
- Organising home-delivered shopping when in-store shopping is not suitable for your needs.
This senior grocery shopping service is delivered within the scope of your approved funding and coordinated by Holdsworth to ensure it aligns with your assessed goals and available budget.
Transport service for shopping
Some people enjoy cooking and simply want support getting to the shops. If that’s the case, Holdsworth also offers a separate transport service.
We offer shopping transport that helps you travel to supermarkets and local markets safely and comfortably, while continuing the routines you enjoy. It’s designed to make shopping easier, rather than replace it.
You can learn more through our shopping transport service page.
Grocery delivery
If getting out is difficult, grocery delivery can be arranged with the help of a support worker. In this case, part of your allocated support worker time is used to assist with shopping, delivery and unpacking.
This option works well alongside prepared meals for seniors, especially for people who like to keep certain staples or favourite items at home. Costs depend on your funding and the time required, and this will always be explained before services begin.

Senior shopping assistance frequently asked questions
How much does the shopping service cost?
Shopping assistance is charged between $105 and $238 per hour. The exact rate depends on when the service is provided, including evenings or weekends, as well as the distance travelled.
If you receive government-funded support, these costs may be covered within your allocated budget, depending on your approved services and available funding. For a full breakdown of rates and charges, please refer to our price list.
What other assistance does Holdsworth provide?
Alongside our senior grocery shopping service, Holdsworth also offers a meal delivery service for seniors and transportation services for seniors. You can combine these services to enhance your daily life or maintain your connections within the community.
English is not my first language. Does Holdsworth provide translation help?
We aim to support people from diverse language backgrounds. While we have staff who speak a range of languages, we cannot guarantee availability of support in every language. If you require ongoing or complex interpreter support, we recommend engaging a trusted support person or an interpreter. Alternatively, you might want to consider the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National).
