Personalised care, delivered at home

Private home care is, for many people, simply about having the best possible support in place, arranged on your terms. Whether you are exploring care options for yourself or for a parent, partner, or someone close to you, private home care works around your life. You choose what support is needed, when it starts and how often someone visits.

As a local not-for-profit community organisation, Holdsworth has been caring for people in the community for over 85 years. All care and support is provided by local, trained support workers and registered nurses who are committed to the wellbeing of every person we support.

Arranging high-quality care for someone you love deserves careful thought and the right guidance. Our job is to provide both. A free aged care consultation is the best place to start: we listen, learn about your situation, and together we work out what would help most.

For many people, private home care is simply about having the best possible support in place. You want experienced, qualified carers and Nurses, a consistent team you can trust, and services that fit around your life.

Why choose private home care?

Private home care is a considered choice. The people who come to us are looking for something specific: experienced professionals they can trust and consistent care that reflects their standards. They want the best, and they want it on their terms.

Many of the families and individuals we support have the means to invest in quality care and choose to do so because they understand the difference it makes. They want to know exactly who is coming into their home. They want a team that is familiar and skilled. Private home care with Holdsworth makes all of that possible.

For others, private care complements existing government-funded services or fills a gap while funding is being arranged. Whatever your reason, it’s valid, and wherever you are in the process, we’re here to help.

As a not-for-profit provider, Holdsworth reinvests every surplus dollar back into care and community. We are here because we care about the people in this community, and we have been caring for them for over 85 years.

Nursing care at home

Holdsworth’s qualified Registered Nurses visit you or your loved one at home, so many routine clinical services no longer require a trip to a clinic or hospital. Nursing care at home includes wound dressing and wound care management, catheter care, medication management and administration and chronic disease monitoring.

Personal care

There is nothing more personal than the support we provide with daily care routines, sometimes referred to as activities of daily living. At Holdsworth, personal care is delivered using a person-centred approach, which means every aspect of support is shaped around the individual: their preferences, their routines, their values and the way they like things done. Our team approaches every visit with the sensitivity, patience, and respect that you or your loved one deserves.

Our services include assistance with showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, oral hygiene and continence support. Our carers are trained to preserve dignity and independence at every step, following your lead rather than taking over.

Consistency matters. Holdsworth works hard to ensure you or your loved one sees the same carer regularly so that you can build a relationship with someone you trust. For family members, knowing that the person they love is being supported by someone familiar and kind is a real reassurance.

Meal preparation

Good nutrition is fundamental to health, energy, and wellbeing as we age. Cooking can become difficult or exhausting over time, whether through mobility challenges, fatigue, or simply the effort of shopping and planning ahead. Holdsworth’s meal preparation service focuses on preparing fresh, nutritious meals at home using ingredients you provide, taking into account personal preferences and cultural and religious needs. If you or your loved one has specific dietary requirements, such as textural modifications prescribed by a dietitian, our team will follow those recommendations carefully.

We shop with you, or for you, to make sure the fridge and pantry are stocked with things you or your loved one enjoys. Meal preparation is also social time. A carer cooking alongside you, or sharing a cup of tea, brings warmth and companionship into the day.

Every situation is different, and the right mix of services will depend on your or your loved one’s needs. Our team is here to help you work that out. Call 1300 882 962 or book a free consultation to get started.

Individual social support

Holdsworth’s individual social support service offers one-on-one companionship visits and accompaniment to appointments, outings, and community activities. We also support you or your loved one to attend local events, stay socially connected, and keep in touch with family and friends through technology.

Our deep roots in the Eastern Suburbs are a real advantage. We know the area. Local cafés, parks, community programs and clubs that might be exactly what someone needs.

We can connect you or your loved one meaningfully to your neighbourhood. This service is particularly valuable for people who have recently lost a partner, relocated, or whose social circle has quietly shrunk with age. For family members living away, it offers something practical and reassuring.

Domestic assistance: Shopping

Getting out to the shops can become difficult with mobility challenges, health conditions or limited transport. Staying in control of your own groceries, choosing your own food, and buying what you like keeps your independence and dignity.

Holdsworth’s shopping assistance includes accompanying you to the supermarket or local shops so you choose exactly what you want, doing the shopping on your behalf from your list, helping carry and pack away or navigating online grocery ordering.

Domestic Assistance: Laundry and cleaning

A clean, comfortable home is important for physical health, hygiene and mental wellbeing. Keeping up with it becomes harder with age, illness or reduced mobility. Holdsworth’s domestic assistance covers light/basic day-to-day cleaning, including vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms and kitchen. Our laundry assistance covers washing, folding, and ironing.

For family members at a distance: knowing the person you love is living in a clean, safe, well-maintained environment is one real thing you can stop worrying about.

Who are our private home care services ideal for?

  • People who prefer to remain private
  • People waiting for or ineligible for a government assessment or Support at Home package.
  • People who have been assessed but need more hours than their package covers.
  • People who have been through a significant change and are looking for ongoing support to stay comfortably and safely in their home.
  • Families living away from the person they love. Adult children interstate or overseas who need the reassurance that mum or dad is safe, well-fed, socially connected and clinically cared for.
  • People who want to try before they commit. Private care lets you start with one or two services and see how it fits before making longer-term plans.

Private home care suits a wide range of situations. If any of the following sounds familiar, we’d love to have a conversation.

Getting started is simple

  • Step 1

Get in touch by calling us on 1300 882 962 or filling out our online form.

  • Step 2

Our team will carefully review the information you have shared and get back to you to talk through your options and next steps.

  • Step 3

One of our Care Partners will visit you or your loved one at home to talk through what day-to-day life looks like and where a little extra support would help.

  • Step 4

Care begins. We match you or your loved one with a suitable carer and support begins.

Your care plan is not set in stone. As needs change, the plan changes with them. We welcome feedback at any time and can adjust services as needed. For family members managing care from a distance, we will keep you informed and in the loop every step of the way.

Frequently asked questions

Private home care, sometimes called fee-for-service care, is a self-funded approach to in-home support services. You choose the provider, the services, and the schedule, and pay for them directly. It is a premium, self-directed arrangement designed for people who want excellent care on their own terms, with complete control over who provides it, how it is delivered, and when.

Private home care is an investment in quality, comfort, and peace of mind. Costs vary depending on the services needed, how often they are required, and the level of clinical skill involved. Nursing care is priced differently from domestic assistance or companionship visits. At Holdsworth, we are transparent about pricing from the very first conversation. The best way to understand what care would cost for your specific situation is to book a free aged care consultation.

No. With private home care, there is no need to contact My Aged Care, complete an ACAT assessment, or wait for a package to be assigned. You simply call us, we talk through what you need, and care can begin. If you would also like to explore government-funded pathways, our team is happy to explain those options too.

The timing depends on your individual needs and circumstances. After your first contact with us, we will arrange a home visit to understand what support would help and then work with you to put the right care in place as smoothly as possible.

Yes, absolutely. Private care can work as a bridge to Commonwealth-funded care. Many families use Holdsworth’s private services to fill the gap while a My Aged Care application is being processed, an assessment is pending, or a funded package has been approved but not yet activated. Once government funding begins, you can transition smoothly to subsidised services or continue with a combination of both if more hours are needed.

Consistency is one of the things we are most committed to at Holdsworth, and it is one of the things our clients value most. We work hard to ensure the same carer visits regularly, because trust and familiarity matter enormously, particularly with personal care. The person receiving care should always know who is coming to their door. If a regular carer is ever unavailable, we will let you and your family know in advance and arrange a suitable replacement.

Yes. Holdsworth’s qualified registered nurses visit clients at home for a range of clinical needs: wound dressing and wound care management, catheter care, medication management and administration, chronic disease monitoring, and post-surgical care. Many routine clinical needs can be managed at home, reducing the physical effort and cost of frequent clinic visits and keeping your loved one in a familiar, comfortable environment.

Holdsworth’s private home care services cover Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and Central Sydney locations Central, including Woollahra, Bondi, Bondi Junction, Coogee, Randwick, Double Bay, Rose Bay, Paddington, Edgecliff, Darlinghurst, Redfern, Maroubra, Clovelly, Bronte, Surry Hills, Newtown, Glebe, Pyrmont, Ultimo and surrounding suburbs.
