- Navigating the my aged...
As we age, navigating the complexities of aged care can be a bit overwhelming. Whether you’re over 65 or a family member looking to support a loved one, understanding the My Aged Care (MAC) process is crucial. This guide will walk you through the steps to access the care you need, with a focus on services available in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and surrounding suburbs including Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and Bayside Councils.
The My Aged Care process
Step 1: Assess your needs
The first step in navigating My Aged Care is to think about the services or support you might need. If you’re unsure, our dedicated community team at Holdsworth is here to assist you. In partnership with Woollahra Council, we offer free information sessions at various locations for the Woollahra area residents. To learn about our upcoming sessions and book your spot, please call us on 1300 882 962.
Step 2: Contact My Aged Care
Once you have an idea of the support you need, get in touch with My Aged Care to arrange an assessment. A representative from My Aged Care will visit you to discuss your needs and the services that might be helpful. This assessment is a crucial step in determining the level of care and support you require.
Step 3: What to expect
After the assessment, you may be offered funding under My Aged Care. Programs include the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or Support at Home (which replaced Home Care Packages on 1 November 2025). The type of support you qualify for will depend on your specific needs and the level of support required.
If you only need entry-level support around the house, transport or social activities, you will likely be offered funding under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. You can now pick a service provider, such as Holdsworth, to receive these services.
For those with more complex care needs, Support at Home provides higher levels of support. There are 8 levels of ongoing Support at Home classifications, each offering a different quarterly budget:
- Classification 1: $2,683 per quarter ($10,731 annually)
- Classification 2: $4,009 per quarter ($16,034 annually)
- Classification 3: $5,491 per quarter ($21,966 annually)
- Classification 4: $7,424 per quarter ($29,696 annually)
- Classification 5: $9,924 per quarter ($39,697 annually)
- Classification 6: $12,029 per quarter ($48,114 annually)
- Classification 7: $14,537 per quarter ($58,148 annually)
- Classification 8: $19,527 per quarter ($78,106 annually)
