CEO Craig Rutherford of Holdsworth shares essential insights on technology for seniors

During a recent session, Craig Rutherford, CEO of Holdsworth, delivered an insightful presentation demonstrating how seniors can leverage modern technology to enhance their lives while safeguarding their personal information. His talk highlighted the importance of finding the right balance between enjoying digital connectivity and protecting personal information. 

Social media connection 

Craig highlighted the transformative power of social media platforms in keeping seniors engaged with family and friends’ lives. However, he stressed the importance of implementing proper privacy settings, particularly recommending that users secure their Facebook profiles to control who can view personal information and posts. 

Smart health technology 

Craig also discussed advanced health monitoring systems capable of detecting heart irregularities and fall incidents. These devices can automatically alert family members or emergency services when critical situations arise, providing an essential safety net for independent living. 

Voice-activated safety solutions 

The session covered practical applications of voice-activated devices like Apple iPhone and Watch as well as Google Nest for emergency communication. Craig demonstrated simple voice commands such as “Hi Google, please call Craig,” which can instantly connect users to family members during emergencies, and with Apple devices, the ability for the device to automatically call for help. He also addressed how strategically placed CCTV in common areas can enhance safety whilst allowing family members to check in remotely. Craig shared personal stories of how this technology has helped him look after his mum.
