Right here in Woollahra, there’s a choir that’s changing how locals, especially our senior community, connect with each other.  

Every Wednesday afternoon at 64 Holdsworth Street, James Paul leads a group of residents through songs, harmonies and plenty of laughter.

This isn’t your typical stuffy choir.  

No auditions. No pressure. No judgment if you haven’t sung since school.  

James has years of experience helping people find their voice, literally. He knows how to work with complete beginners and more experienced singers in the same room. Everyone learns something new.  

The choir performs at local events around Woollahra. You might have seen them at Family Fun Day or Christmas in July at Gaden. They’re part of what makes our community feel alive.  

But here’s what members actually love most:  

“I signed up for the choir last week, and it was the best thing I’ve done. I love to sing, I just didn’t know I did until now.”  

Another member who was nervous about joining says: “I thought I couldn’t sing. Turns out I just needed someone patient to show me how. Now I look forward to Wednesdays all week.”  

The choir is part of Woollahra Life!, a council program that’s all about bringing residents together. It’s run by Holdsworth and designed to offer a vibrant mix of social, creative and wellness programs.  

Age doesn’t matter. Skill doesn’t matter. You just need to want to be there.  

Sessions run from 12:30pm to 2pm, which means you can easily fit it into your week. Pop in on your lunch break or make it your Wednesday afternoon ritual.
