- Why singing is good...
Singing does something special to your body and mind.
When you sing, your brain releases endorphins and lowers stress hormones. Your breathing deepens. Your shoulders relax. Even just a few minutes can shift your entire mood.
But it gets better when you sing with other people.
Group singing creates something meaningful. Your breathing syncs up with others. Your heartbeats start to match. You’re literally in harmony with the people around you.
Studies show that people who sing in choirs report:
- Less anxiety and depression
- Better social connections
- Improved memory and focus
- Stronger immune systems
And you don’t need to be good at it. You just need to show up and give it a go.
The mental health benefits are real. Singing forces you to breathe deeply, which calms your nervous system. It gets you out of your head and into your body. And when you’re part of a group, you stop worrying about being perfect. You just enjoy the moment.
Plus, making friends as an adult is hard. Really hard.
Choir gives you an instant community. You’re working together towards something. You’re supporting each other. Before you know it, you’re grabbing coffee after rehearsal and catching up about your week.
So if you’ve been feeling a bit isolated or stressed lately, singing might be exactly what you need.
