Our July Men’s Chat Group, run in partnership with Woollahra Council, didn’t quite go to plan, our guest speaker had to cancel at the last minute. But honestly? It turned out to be one of our most memorable sessions yet.

Without a set agenda, the group simply started talking… and the stories began to flow. We covered everything from health battles and big cultural differences to those spur-of-the-moment life choices that make for the best (and sometimes funniest) memories. There were laughs over unexpected property buys, tales of last-minute overseas adventures, and reflections on how life can throw us curveballs when we least expect it.

Some of the stories shared included:

  • Facing health challenges and bouncing back after surgeries
  • Growing up in far-flung places like Singapore and England
  • Working all over the world in careers like surveying and teaching
  • Families making big moves from countries like Poland to Australia
  • Staying active in retirement with bushwalks and outdoor adventures
  • How family and community connections keep us grounded

By the end of the afternoon, we were reminded that sometimes the best sessions happen when there’s no script. Sharing stories, listening, and laughing together brought us all a little closer, and left everyone walking away with a lighter heart and a stronger sense of connection.
