What is interim funding under Support at Home?

The new Support at Home program puts you at the centre of aged care. It creates a safer and fairer system and ensures everyone has the quality of life they deserve.

What is interim funding?

Interim funding gives you access to 60% of your approved funding to start receiving services when wait times for ongoing services are longer than expected. This means you can begin getting the help you need right away, rather than waiting for your full funding to become available. Decisions to allocate full or interim funding will depend on demand compared to available funding.

How does interim funding work?

When you are approved for Support at Home:

  • You receive 60% of your total funding classification to allow you to access critical services. This interim amount helps you get started with the most important services first.
  • The remaining 40% of your funding is allocated when it becomes available, and this amount is not backdated.

What can I use interim funding for?

You will need to work with your provider to prioritise services within your interim budget while you wait for the remaining funding to be available.

Your provider will help you decide which services are most critical. This might include:

  • Help with personal care like showering and dressing
  • Nursing care if you have health needs
  • Cleaning and household tasks
  • Social support to stay connected

Does interim funding apply to all pathways?

Interim funding does not apply to the End-of-Life Pathway or Restorative Care Pathway. These short-term pathways have funding available immediately.
