At Holdsworth Playgroup, it’s not just about the toys and swings, it’s about the people. One of the families who’ve become a regular and much-loved part of our community is Eliza and her two young daughters, Alba (almost 3) and Willa (18 months). They’ve been part of the Playgroup family since the early days of motherhood, and their journey reflects everything we hope to offer: connection, comfort and community. 

From Mother’s Group to Monday mornings 

Eliza first came to Holdsworth Playgroup through her local mother’s group, which was formed through the local Child & Family Health Clinic. “One of the mums lives across the road and told us about it,” Eliza shares. “We started coming when my eldest was a baby and now she’s nearly three! It just became part of our routine.” 

That routine has stuck and grown. “Monday mornings at Holdsworth have become a bit of an unspoken rule for our mums’ group. We always end up there.” 

A space that works for parents and children  

For Eliza, Playgroup is more than just a way to fill a morning, it’s a safe, local space that meets the real needs of parents. “It’s enclosed, it’s staffed, and there’s always something to do. With two kids, it’s so important to have somewhere that’s easy, safe and flexible,” she says. 

Her girls adore it too. “They used to love the baby room, though they’re a bit too big for it now,” Eliza says. “Alba is always carrying around the baby dolls and pushing the pram, and Willa is on the swing the entire time. And we always grab a coffee on Queen Street and walk down, it’s part of the ritual.” 

A hidden gem for local families 

One of the best things about Holdsworth Playgroup, according to Eliza, is how it brings local families together. “It’s hidden, so most people who come are local, you’re meeting people in your own community. I’ve made some great mum friends here. We’ve had birthday parties here too.” 

The setup makes a big difference. “I could sit and feed Willa while Alba was happily playing. It’s just easy and that’s not always the case when you’re out with two small kids.” 

Thinking of visiting? Here’s Eliza’s advice: 

“I recommend it to everyone. It’s the easiest place to catch up with friends or let your kids burn off some energy. There are toys, toilets, and always someone around to help if you need. My girls will play for two or three hours happily, it ticks all the boxes.” 

“It’s such a set part of our week now, I’d probably still come even if we didn’t live in Woollahra anymore.”
