Young-at-heart Michelle utilises Holdsworth’s Community Transport to get her to medical appointments and stays connected with the community (and has some fun) with our Wednesday Wellbeing group.

The 1960s was an iconic decade for the fashion world. And Michelle was there. Now nearly 87, the former fashion buyer has travelled the world, visited the big fashion houses in Europe, and even been on the front page of the Sunday paper.

After an illustrious career, including working for Mark Foy’s Department Store – a Sydney architectural icon to this day – and raising a family, Michelle still feels blessed.

“My favourite place in the world is when Sally and Catriona pick me up on a Wednesday,” Michelle says of her weekly Holdsworth outings.

Michelle has osteoporosis, and recently had a fall, making walking anywhere quite difficult (or as Michelle puts it, ‘a blasted nuisance’). Holdsworth’s transport service has played a key role in improving Michelle’s health and wellbeing, connecting her with social opportunities which Michelle thrives on, as well as helping get her to medical appointments.

One of the things she loves most about the outings is not having to worry how to get there, because the bus collects her from home. Michelle also loves the warmth of the Holdsworth volunteers and that she’s surrounded by ‘ladies of my age’, so there’s never a reason to feel embarrassed.

Michelle enjoys the calmness and consideration of the Holdsworth programs, and with a yoga instructor as a daughter, she knows how important keeping your body moving is for your health and wellbeing.

Michelle was encouraged to reach out to Holdsworth by a friend of hers, and says: “It’s just been the best decision at my stage and age.”

She calls herself ‘Mrs Have-a-chat’ and ‘an old girl’, but Michelle is filled with a type of luminosity that will never fade, and even a short conversation with her will brighten your day.
