What is Become a Senior Cyber Hero?

Become a Senior Cyber Hero is a session series that helps older people build the confidence and skills to use technology safely, from video calling family to recognising a scam. Holdsworth delivers Become a Senior Cyber Hero as part of the Australian Government’s Act Now, Stay Secure cyber security campaign, funded by the Department of Home Affairs.

Why digital skills matter

Being online today means video calling a grandchild, booking a medical appointment or accessing a government service. It also means dealing with scams and threats that didn’t exist a generation ago. Older people who didn’t grow up with this technology need practical, hands-on support to use it with confidence.

About Become a Senior Cyber Hero

Act Now, Stay Secure is the Australian Government’s national cyber security awareness campaign, run by the Department of Home Affairs as part of the 2023 to 2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. It encourages practical habits such as turning on multi-factor authentication, keeping software up to date and using a strong passphrase of 14 characters or more. Holdsworth delivers Become a Senior Cyber Hero for older people in Woollahra as a guided, in-person series of sessions, built around these same habits. Being online today means video calling a grandchild, booking a medical appointment or accessing a government service. It also means dealing with scams and threats that didn’t exist a generation ago. Older people who didn’t grow up with this technology need practical, hands-on support to use it with confidence.
