Holdsworth Community supports young people living with an intellectual disability to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

This program is designed to support and empower young people living with disabilities to set their own goals, make choices and achieve their personal best.

The Duke of Ed is a flexible and non-competitive program centred on personal development for young people aged between 14 and 25 years old.

There are three levels of the award (no time limit, or pressure to complete each award):

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold

Each award has four categories:

  • Skills
  • Service
  • Physical Recreation
  • Adventurous Journey (overnight stay)

Participants can use programs, camps and activities they are already attending to complete the four different categories of the DOE or choose to take up new activities.

Holdsworth will work with the participant and their family to establish and put in place the supports each individual may need to achieve their goals. The Duke of Edinburgh will provide a way of regularly celebrating achievements and the award is highly recognised and valued by employers, training and education institutions.
