On 14 March, Holdsworth hosted a Great Gatsby-themed high tea and dance event for local seniors, celebrating community spirit and the charm of the twenties. Our guests dressed the part, putting on their very best flapper outfits, and were transported to the roaring twenties by art deco decorations and the sounds of jazz music. The room buzzed with excitement as seniors from Woollahra gathered to dance, connect, and enjoy each other’s company.

The event began with a welcome from Sarah Swan, Mayor of Woollahra, who emphasised the importance of such gatherings in bringing the community together. Her words set the tone for the day, reinforcing the significance of creating spaces where seniors can engage and build community. The highlights of the afternoon were the dance performances by Lyn Ainsworth, Holdsworth’s former Interim CEO, and her dance partner, Rommel Olsen, a highly accredited dancer, instructor, and choreographer. Their performance included various styles, such as the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Milonga, Hustle, and Salsa.

For many guests, the event was a highlight of the Woollahra Festival of Fun. One attendee said, “I haven’t danced like that in years!” Another guest remarked, “This has created so much joy for us today.” The sense of community and joy shared among the attendees was evident throughout the day.

Holdsworth’s Gatsby-themed was great fun, and a memorable experience for all involved. We extend our appreciation to Mayor Sarah Swan for attending, and to Woollahra Council for their support. A special thank you also goes out to our dedicated team and volunteers, whose hard work ensured the event was a success.
